Hypnosis is a process orientated approach that supports a client to enter a trance or hypnotic state where the brain is producing Alpha and Theta brains. In this state, focus and concentration is heightened. Hypnotherapy is inclusive of the techniques, suggestions and therapy as a whole that consists of hypnosis to support the mind at an unconscious level so the client can have greater control over sensation and behaviour.
Studies have shown that hypnotherapy can have a 93% success rate of improvement in just 4-6 sessions. The effectiveness of hypnotherapy increases when the client and therapist follow the treatment plan properly, if the client is open and committed to the process and all sessions are completed within required time-frames. The effectiveness of hypnotherapy decreases depending on the individual's level of commitment, such as completing homework tasks and listening to recordings daily in between sessions and attendance to appointments. Yes, because when a client is feeling safe and comfortable in their own home it allows them to relax easier and enter a trance state quicker, deeper and with enhanced focus and greater suggestibility. This has been reflected in some studies where clients receiving in-home and online treatment had greater results than those who received treatment for the same condition in clinic. It is also more convenient. There is no need to to worry about paying for parking spaces, becoming anxious trying to find an office or having to sit in a clinical environment.
When I arrive to your home we will determine a comfortable and quiet space for you to sit back and relax where your posture will be supported. It might be that you support your back, head and shoulders with a pillow or rest your feet up on a footrest. I suggest to my clients that you wear your most comfiest clothes and remove any items that might cause discomfort such as shoes, glasses, scarves, watches etc. I also ask that you turn the volume down on your phone and minimise any noise distractions. If you have a favourite blanket or pair of comfortable slippers then get them ready. This is a great way to really relax and enjoy the moment.
Online Hypnotherapy is done via Video-Conferencing. You will need to install Zoom or Microsoft Teams and have a secure internet connection and ensure that your laptop is charged or your computer has a reliable power source to minimise any disruption to your session. No. Whilst in a hypnotic state you can still open your eyes, re-adjust your position, speak and interrupt the session to get up for example, if you need a drink of water or to use the bathroom. Hypnotherapy is not Stage Hypnosis, you will not do things that you do not want to do. If you are someone who struggles with control, just know that I will not be using commanding language with you such as what Stage Hypnotists or Traditional Hypnotherapists use. I will be using Ericksonian hypnosis that is not direct and is a gentle language style that is tailored to help you let go in a very caring way.
That is something only you can decide. However, it is important to know that hypnosis is actually scientific. It is not magical or trickery. Hypnosis just helps your brain to produce Alpha and Theta waves which is where enhanced focus and suggestibility at an unconscious level occurs. It is a natural state that you go in and out of on your own every day. For example, when you are driving your car and you get home and yet you don't remember all the turns and lights you went through...this is you in a hypnotic state because in this state your brain is producing Alpha and Theta waves. This also occurs when you are reading a book and can no longer hear the neighbour whipper-snipping or the dog barking.
